Excess weight is a prime coronary risk factor and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people every year.

The priority of fitness professionals like myself, is to make aware to everybody the risks and eliminate them by ensuring that you reach your optimal weight through a sensible eating plan (not a diet) and exercise.  With this the great news is that you will look and feel great!

There are problems mainly to do with peoples understanding of what fat is and what happens to it when you exercise, the biggest myth I have to deal with is… If you exercise the fat will turn to muscle, this understanding couldn’t be more wrong!

This is a physical impossibility, as Fat & Muscle have completely different properties.  In simple terms fat is a collection of unused calories stored in a substance called adipose tissue.  Strictly what you should concentrate on is not your weight loss but fat loss by burning those extra calories.

REMEMBER, WE WERE MADE TO MOVE, WE WERE GIVEN ARMS AND LEGS BUT SO MANY OF US UNNCESARILY USE CARS TO GO VERY SHORT DISTANCES, MERLY FOR CONVIENIENCE RATHER THAN ANY REAL NEED.  MOST PEOPLE TODAY REALLY DO NOT DO ENOUGH IN THE COURSE OF THE DAY TO BALANCE THE CALORIE INTAKE.

FACTS:

  • Body fat is simply stored calories
  • It is not possible to turn fat to muscle
  • It is possible to burn fat through regular exercise
  • Exercise will speed up your metabolic rate
  • The biggest benefit of fat loss is a reduced risk of coronary heart disease
