Commonwealth games gold medallist boxer, Jamie Arthur and functional fitness specialists, Jordan Fitness have helped regenerate a local community gym in rural South Wales creating opportunities for aspiring boxers in the area.

Following a string of titles, including Welsh Super Featherweight Champion in 2008 and gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2002, Jamie Arthur’s vision is to inspire his local community in Rhydyfelin, near Pontypridd  to become more active and to help drive down obesity levels.

Starting with a derelict bingo hut, Jamie and his fitness instructor wife Karen spent six months transforming a once-redundant building into a thriving independent gym and community hub offering boxing training and fitness workouts.  Since opening in February this year, they have already attracted over 100 members through word of mouth recommendation. Around a quarter of these are within the 6-11 year age group.

“Jordan Fitness have supplied us with their Powerbags, Alpha Strong sandbags and Jungle Gym XT Suspension Training Systems, which has resulted in great customer feedback and helped us attract even more members to the gym”, says Jamie Arthur. “It’s fantastic to see a community gym offering so many young people opportunities within the sport as well as promoting exercise for the older age groups”.

“We are very happy to help Jamie’s community project as he is such an inspiring role model and extremely driven in his vision to drive down obesity and promote healthy living through fitness”, says Zak Pitt, Sales Director at Jordan Fitness.
