Healthy School Lunchbox for Kids

| 22/02/2012 | 2 Comments More

Be creative in preparing your kids lunchboxes and have a good mixture of fruit and vegetables.  Add a healthy drink, such as a small carton of unsweetened apple juice or water.  As a father myself, I know how much time is precious but you should always find time for your kids and have their health at the forefront of your mind and as you can see, a lunchbox like this only take 10mins to prepare.

Serves 1

Prep time = 10mins

  • 2x slices of whole grain bread
  • 2x tsp of smooth peanut butter
  • 1x tsp of strawberry jam (unsweeted)
  • Handful of baby carrots or carrot slices
  • Small bunch of seedless grapes
  • 1x fruit fromage frais with fresh berries and pineapple chunks

This is a suggested menu but bear in mind the following when putting together a lunchbox:

  1. Always include raw vegetables (with healthy dip optional)
  2. Always include fresh fruit
  3. Avoid fizzy drinks
  4. Avoid crisps and other salty snacks
  5. Add plain popcorn, mini bread sticks or rice cakes
  6. Always use wholegrain bread or pita and cut into fun shapes
  7. Use ham, cheese, mashed egg, drained flaked tuna and avoid fillings that make the bread soggy
  8. Add a box of raisins, dried apricots, or an oat fruit cookie
  9. Make everything easy to eat and have a variety of different tastes and textures
