Fish Pedicure Treatments | Sole Spa Swindon

Garra Rufa Fish Pedicure Treatments are becoming one of the most popular natural treatments to use for the feet so I recently went along to Sole Spa Swindon (Swindons Premier Natural Fish Pedicure Spa) to checkout for myself what this treatment is all about.

It is a natural treatment using Garra Rufa Fish to help assist the well-being of hands and feet by naturally exfoliating hard skin, alleviating eczema and psoriasis and stimulating accupuncture points and circulation.

The fish that are used are part of the toothless Carp family, and are also known as Dr. Fish due to their therapeutic treatment for the skin. They are similar to comb fish as they only consume the affected and dead areas of skin leaving the healthy skin to grow.  They are tropical river bottom dwelling fish and occur in the river basins of mainly Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq.

The Garra Rufa fish have rough mouths (like a cat’s tongue) which together with their suction, gently exfoliates away the dead and damaged skin cells leaving your feet feeling smooth to touch. They also produce an enzyme called ‘diathanol’ which passes through the skin leaving your feet very soft and supple and they will remain softer for longer than using conventional moisturisers. Some clients have found this to be true for up to 2 weeks after their treatment.

The fish also extract naturally occurring salts and minerals from the skin which is of a benefit to them as, vitamins are to us. The fish at these spas are fed at the end of each day on high quality fish food which ensures their health, and a quality treatment for clients using this treatment.

The removal of dead or damaged skin and the regeneration of healthy new skin will benefit everyone with complaints such as dry or hard skin, to the alleviation of eczema and psoriasis. The sensation of the fish massage stimulates nerve endings in a similar way to acupuncture treatments, which help to relieve the body of tiredness  and provide a form of relaxation. It also encourages blood flow to the feet which is of great benefit to anyone with cold feet and bad circulation through conditions such as Raynaud’s syndrome and diabetes.

  • Reduction of dry and hard skin
  • Skin softer and more supple
  • Promotes regeneration of new skin
  • Relieves some symptoms of psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis such as itching
  • Increased circulation of blood to area helping to promote healthy skin and warmer extremities
  • Sense of deep relaxation and well being

The experience was fantstic and Id highly reccomend anyone to give it a go…  Spas offering this treatment spread accross the UK, but I would be weary of venturing into the shopping mall spas as they tend to be a conveyor belt get them in get them out mentality and dont give the fish time to rest.

Checkout spas offering this treatment, they will also tend to have the relaxing environment that helps also.  I visited the Sole Spa Swindon and if you are in the Swindon area then I would highly reccomend visiting.
